Wilmot Elementary School

Evergreen, Colorado – Renovation & Addition

ARCHITECT | DLR Group

The addition of a new 13,000 square foot state-of-the-art gymnasium, alongside a commercial kitchen and cafeteria, provided much-needed resources for both students and staff. The extensive renovations, including the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting and a modern fire alarm system, improved safety and efficiency within the existing facility.

Conducting construction activities while the school remained fully operational required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure the safety and comfort of students and staff. This involved scheduling construction work during off-peak hours, implementing physical barriers to isolate work zones, and maintaining clear communication with school administration to minimize disruptions. Special attention was given to key school activities such as student drop-off and pick-up times, as well as recess, to ensure a seamless construction process that did not interfere with the daily operations of the school. Additionally, the site featured a historic building, which required thoughtful planning to preserve its integrity while seamlessly integrating modern upgrades around it.
